Date for the Diary
16th Lochearnhead Shears

4th & 5th July 2009

Welcome to the Lochearnhead Shears 2008 Website

Lochearnhead Shears was established in 1993, and over the years it has become one of the larger sheep shearing competitions in the United Kingdom. Sheep shearers from all over the World compete to take home the “Scottish Blackface Shearing Champion” title. Blackface sheep are predominant in this area and require extra skills from the competitors to overcome their flighty nature and the coarser wool of this mountain breed.

Situated in central Scotland at the West end of Lochearn, it is an idyllic location for our event, surrounded by hills and the near by Ben Vorlich, at the start of the Highland mountainous range, where Highland hospitality is as much breathtaking as the views.

Along with our competitors, we must thank our sponsors both large and small, without them we would have great difficulty in maintaining our competition to the standard we have achieved to date.

We are pleased to hold the Celtic Challenge preliminary round with the final held in late July at our sister competition, Corwen Shears in North Wales. On the Sunday evening our Scotland .v. New Zealand test and an International relay are both great entertainment for our marquee full of roaring spectators. Not only do we have machine shearing to entertain you, we have a very successful blade shearing competition, wool-handling and crook-making event with competitors coming from far and wide.

We hope you enjoy looking through our website and look forward to welcoming you to Lochearnhead Shears next year on July 4th and 5th 2009.
